Patrick was born on Feb. 6, 1926 in Belfast, Ireland to James and Elizabeth Mathews. He was a champion Irish dancer as a young teenager and started out as an amateur actor in the Belfast Arts Theatre with Stephen Boyd. Patrick played professionally in London’s New Theatre and with the BBC before going on to Canada where he was an ad-writer and eventually moved to Hollywood where he was a screenwriter for television and wrote for such series as “Wonder Woman,” “Switch,” “Hart to Hart,” “Quincy” and “Man from Atlantis.” Patrick was a World War II veteran of the Royal Air Force and served in India and Pakistan from 1942 to 1946. He was just 16 years old when he joined the RAF. While in London he married his wife of 47 years, Paula Mathews. He and his wife retired to Tehachapi where she passed away in 2000. Shortly after that, Patrick moved to the Thousand Oaks area to be near his daughter, due to illness. Patrick is survived by his sons, James Mathews of Sand Diego and Peter Mathews of Lancaster; daughter P.J. Christoni of Newbury Park; grandchildren Courtney, Brooke, McKenna, Maddisyn, Ryan, Sydney, Matthew and Hunter; and sisters Alice McCaffrey of Pennsylvania and Philomena Murphy of Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the tsunami victims through the American Red Cross or the United Way. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements.
