Gathings Services: Tues., Jan 18 at 10 A.M. Services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Ln., Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 10:00 A.M., for Jodie L. Gathings, 74, who passed away on January 10, 2005 in Bullhead City, Arizona. Pastor Phil Neighbors and Dr. Gary Mathena will officiate and interment will follow in Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park. Mr. Gathings was born October 26, 1930 in Munday, Texas and grew up near and around that area. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Henderson during the Korean War Conflict. On August 29, 1954 he married J. Yvonne Adams of Willard, NM, They made their home in Vernon, Texas later moving to Carlsbad, NM. Josie and Yvonne then moved to Bakersfield California in 1967 and there raised their 5 children. Yvonne preceded him in death on November 27, 1992. His interest were music, reading, camping, fishing and gardening. Mr. Gathings was a charter member of the Bakersfield Country Music Association and he and his wife owned and managed the Lucky Spot in the mid 1970s. He worked for 26 years in the oil industry in Bakersfield and retired in 1993 from Surface pumps. In July of 2002 he moved to Golden Valley, Arizona to live with his oldest daughter and son-in-law. He is survived by his two sisters, Lillie Jones of Olney, TX and Frances Thetford of Graham, TX; his son, Gerald Gathings of McFarland, CA; daughters & sons-in-law, Ginger & Larry Strawn of Golden Valley, AZ, Kyra & Roger Haney of Mount Holly, NC, and Gwendolyn Gathings of Bakersfield, CA; son, Grant Gathings of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Christopher Gathings, Alwin Gollihar, Jodie Gollihar, Sarah Davidson, Deborah Brown, David Gathings, Derek Gathings, Scott Bowling, Chris Strawn, Nikki Strawn, Shannan Miller and 11 great-grandchildren. Our beloved father, papa, and brother, you are dearly loved and you will be dearly missed. Go and sing with Gods angels. Grow your gardens for His table. Rest in peace dear loved one. Until we can be together again you will forever be in our hearts. Visitation will be held Sunday and Monday, January 16 & 17 from noon to 9:00 P.M.
