He was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA and was one of 4 boys and 1 girl born to Kemp and Dena Collier. He was a graduate of Garces Memorial High School and married a Bakersfield girl, Janet Jarrard, in 1959. Marc could have been dubbed the grandfather of the year, so involved was he with the lives of both grandchildren. He traveled far and wide to attend every wrestling meet for little Marc and loved and counseled granddaughter Taylor from her birth. He also served as a surrogate grandfather to the Noblemen Wrestling Team. Ever the outdoorsman, Marc was a hunter and fisherman. Some of his best stories were about hunting trips to Wyoming and Utah with his brothers, nephews and friends. These trips were as much about camaraderie as hunting and Marc had maintained many life-long friendships. His Saturday morning ritual was frequenting estate sales. A grand celebration in the family garage will take place at a later date to dispose of these precious treasures. Marc was involved with many service clubs over the years and served as President of the Pacific Grove High School Breakers Club for two terms. He served on the board of United Way and was a long time Marshall for the AT&T Golf Tournament. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he has supplied everyone with a Marc Story, all you had to do was ask. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jan of Pebble Beach; his sons, Matthew (Lillian) of Bakersfield, and Steven of Pebble Beach; his grandchildren, Taylor and Marc of Bakersfield; his brother Dennis (Angela) of Camarillo, Steven (Sandie), Michael (Sue), sister, Kim (Henry) Daramy, of Bakersfield; 11 nephews, and 5 nieces (all special); his aunts, Daphne Coletti of Los Gatos and Lena Antongiovanni of Buttonwillow; his in-laws, Kay and Gary Short and Richard and Cindy Wood. Memorial mass will be held at St. Angelas Church in Pacific Grove at 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 20, 2005. A second memorial mass will be held at St. Francis Church in Bakersfield on Friday, January 21 at 3:00 pm In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Hospice, (CCVNA Foundation) P.O. Box 2480, Monterey, Ca 93942. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
