A memorial service will be held Friday, January 21, at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. Visitation will be at Greenlawn on Thursday, 4 8 p.m. Bill was born in Bakersfield, January 21, 1941. He attended local schools, graduating from East Bakersfield High School in 1959. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy serving our Country faithfully and honorable until the death of his brother Jack in Vietnam in 1969. Bill received numerous Letters of Commendation during his years of service. Bill continued his serve in the Naval Reserves achieving the rank of First Class Radioman and retired in 1999. He upheld the highest traditions of the United States Navy throughout his career, serving on the USS Burton Island, USS New Jersey, USS Denver, USS Hooper, USS OCallahan, USS Goldsborough, and USS Sirius. This was the beginning of his love and respect for the ocean. Bill loved his children and grandchildren. He knew no stranger and found joy and fulfillment in helping others. Bill treasured the lifelong friendships and memories he developed throughout his life. He is also known for his commitment and involvement to the auto parts industry and auto racing. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice Gordon; brother, Jack; infant sister, Helen, and wife, Sharon. He is survived by his children, daughter, Cathy Final, of Fallbrook, CA., daughter and son-in-law, Corey and Duane Keathley of Bakersfield and their children, Kimberly, Michele and Robert, daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Jonathan Aberle of Rancho Murrieta and their daughter Emily, and son, Justin Gordon of Monterey, CA. he is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Russell Bigler, sister Mary Trichell, uncle Richard Heber and his wife, Evelyn; nephews, William Ray Harper, wife Michelle and daughter Emelie, Gordon Bigler, and John Trichell. Nieces, Susan Begin, husband Scott and their children Lee and Rory, and Sarah Trichell, all of Bakersfield, aunt Frances Welch of Michigan, cousins, Joan Knopka, Kristine Stempe, Diane Pinson, Steven Heber, and loving companion and best friend, Deanna Barton. Honorary Pallbearers; Duane Keathley, Jonathon Aberle, Ray Harper, Gordon Bigler, John Trichell, Steven Heber, Russell Bigler, Scott Begin, Terry Lenmark, Ruben Ramirez, Michael Barton, Lance Barton, and Norman Kitchen.
