She was born on April 29, 1944, in Delano, to Mark and Frances Taylor. A memorial service will be held at the Delano First Methodist Church on Monday, February 21, at 11 a.m. As a teenager, Paula recovered from a brain injury suffered while horseback riding. After being in a coma for a month, Paula overcame the effects of the injury to relearn to walk, talk, and to drive a car. She attended Bakersfield College earning an Associate of Arts degree, and to live an independent life. She was active in the Delano First Methodist Church, the Delano Historical Society, The Friends of the Library, and a frequent donor to the Houchin Blood Bank and many charitable causes. Paula was very loving and reached out to people wherever she went. She never missed a chance to call hundreds of people each year to wish them well on their birthdays. She always sought to make the world a kinder, more loving place. She had a great sense of humor and was very intelligent. In a loving way, Paula also never missed the chance to correct someones English. No one can replace her unique personality and kindness. Paula was predeceased by her parents, Mark and Frances Taylor; grandmother, Edith Taylor; and grandparents, Paul and Annis Shackelford. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ronda and Livio Mazzei, Bakersfield, CA; brother, Patrick Taylor, Santa Rosa, CA; nephew, Craig Todd and friend, Allyson Zenimura, Fresno, CA; and nephew, Chris Todd, Clovis, CA. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Paulas most caring caregivers, Tammy Teasley and Cora Ochoa, and her doctors, Radhey Bansal, Shawn Shambaugh, Owen Kim, and Physicians Assistant, Tina at CBCC, and its many special caring nurses. As per Paulas wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation.
