Mr. Kitchen was born in Phelps County, Missouri on September 26, 1942 and passed away in Bakersfield on January 16, 2005. Johns parents brought him to Taft when he was a few months old. He was raised and educated in Taft and was a member of the class of 1960 at Taft Union High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam conflict. John had been employed by P.G.&E. as an electrician for over 30 years. He was a very active member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Taft Elks Lodge, #1527 B.P.O.E., the Taft Lodge #1431 Loyal Order of Moose, Fellows American Legion Post #63 and was a life member of the NRA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Edna Kitchen. John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Kitchen of Taft; his daughter and her husband, Shannon and Aurelio Juarez of San Francisco; his son and his wife, Dwayne and Janice Kitchen of Bakersfield; his grandchildren, Tanner and Tyler Kitchen both of Bakersfield; his sister, Ann Rhyneer of Decatur, Illinois; his uncle and his wife, Jim and Evelyn Pence of Taft; his niece, Kristina Field of Portland, Oregon; his nephew, Kevin Renz of Bellingham, Washington; numerous cousins and a host of friends. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
