Ruth Hartje
1915 - 2005

Ruth E. Hartje was 90 years old when she passed away on January 18, 2005 in 
Bakersfield, CA from pneumonia and a stroke. 

She was born in Council Bluffs, IA. After graduating high school, she married 
Dudley Hartje in 1936 and celebrated 57 happy years together. They lived in 
Council Bluffs, IA for 7 years, then moved to Shenandoah, IA where they 
brought up their two children. They then moved to Hastings in 1964. They 
enjoyed golf, bridge, and barbeques with their many friends. Following 
retirement, they spent their winters in Texas. Dudley passed away at the age 
of 79. The following year, Ruth moved to Bakersfield where she enjoyed the 
last 10 years of her life. 

Throughout her life she was a member of First Congregational United Church of 
Christ.

Survivors include: Richard and Betty Hartje of Bakersfield, CA, Joan and 
Dennis Kalivoda of Lincoln, NE, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Council Bluffs, IA.
