Wednesday, he went to the cemetery to visited her, had his familys usual afternoon visit followed by a wonderful dinner, and slept well. Thursday, he was dressing for his regular 5 a.m. breakfast, when he passed peacefully. He was born in Bakersfield, California August 18, 1917, to parents, Gregorio and Eulalia Mendiburu. Joe was married to Jeannie in May of 1941 and then he followed in his fathers footsteps in the livestock business. He never missed a day of work, not even on an occasional vacation. His day always involved the purchase of sheep or cattle. He loved working alongside his faithful and longtime employees, and they would vouch that no one else could work the cattle chute like him. His hobbies were, going to see his cattle every day, shooting squirrels, socializing with his family, and watching baseball or football. He was a past member of numerous organizations, and he led a full and wonderful life up to his last day. He was very proud of his family, as they were of him. He will be missed by all who knew him, since he touched so many hearts! He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeannie; parents, Gregorio and Eulalia Mendiburu; sisters, Marcelina and husband, Louie Curutchet, and Julie Bessonart; mother-in-law, Grace Elizalde and husband, John; sister-in-law, Mary Ansolabehere and husband, John; brothers-in-law, Louie Elizalde and wife, Janice, and Albert Elizalde. He is survived by his son, George Mendiburu; daughters, Jo Ann Mendiburu, and Sharon Banks and husband, Tim; brother, Mike Mendiburu; brother-in-law, Dennis Bessonart; grandchildren, Bob Leppek and wife, Julie, Joe Mendiburu and wife, Lee, Timmy Banks and wife, Rana, Jody Reese and husband, Dan, Nicole Dobrzanski and husband, Robert, Danielle Mendiburu, and Lisa Salisbury; great grandchildren, Jake, Grant, and Lindsay Leppek, Aubrey and Ryan Reese, Beck, Will, and Clair Dobrzanski, Ivy Mendiburu, Josh and Matthew Salisbury, and James Banks III; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and finally, his faithful dog, Nikki. Viewing will be Monday, January 24, at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary. He will be laid to rest by his wife Jeannie, Tuesday, January 25, at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery.
