Hanon Lt. Colonel, United States Army, Retired January 25, 1913 June 30, 2004 Visitation will be held on Friday, July 2, 2004, from 3-7 p.m., at Autumn Oaks Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, July 3, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Stine Road Baptist Church. Mr. Hanon was a career military officer, serving in the United States Army, and a veteran of World War II. During his military career he had a wide variety of experiences, graduated with honors from the United States Military War College, was the Inspector General for the National Guard units from 5 mid- western states, taught ROTC for three years, was a Nuclear Weapons advisor for the Republic of South Korea Army (ROK), was a personal friend of former South Korean President, Syngman Rhee, was the Deputy Commander of several Hawk missile batteries guarding the Fulda Gap where the Russian Army was massed for a possible invasion of Germany during the Cold War. He loved working with his hands be it gardening or building his own homes and was always devoutedly involved in his Churches no matter where he might be stationed throughout his career. But, probably his greatest passion was developing a friendship with everyone he came in contact with. He loved people. People were his pride and joy. He was a longtime member of Stine Road Baptist Church where he served in a number of capacities, including Sunday School teacher and member of the Church Choir as he had a passion for singing. He was also a very active member for many years of the senior citizens group of Stine Road Baptist Church, the Prime Timers. Mr. Hanon is preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Agee Hanon; parents, Mero and Fanniebelle Hanon; and sisters, Willa Pitzen and Fern Wheeler. Survivors include his wife, Dessa McClure Hanon; four sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Janet Hanon, Bellevue, Nebraska, Jeri and Janice Hanon, Salem, Oregon, Lyle Hanon, Bakersfield, California and Phil and Carol Hanon, Cambria, California; eight grandchildren; and eleven great- grandchildren; and stepsons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and nancy McClure of Seabrook, Texas and Tom and Sherry McClure of Bakersfield, CA.
