He was the youngest of six children born to Columbus Taylor Talbott and Margaret Nelson Liddell Talbott. At the age of five his parents retired and moved to the nearby city of Council Bluffs, Iowa where Darwin spent all of his school years. He married his high school sweetheart, Ila Edith Reichardt, April 19, 1940, the daughter of Charles Raymond Reichardt Sr. and Ida Moser Reichardt. They had no children. Darwin was always interested in sports and played basketball, baseball and tennis while in school. This interest followed him all of his life and he continued as an active player and sometime coach well into his adult years. Later he added golf, a game he was still playing in his 80s. Darwin began what became his life career in the baking industry in 1938 when he became a driver salesman for Continental Baking Co. in Omaha, NE. He later transferred to plant operations. After his graduation from the American Institute of Baking in Chicago, IL, he was transferred to the Los Angeles division of Continental Baking Co. He was called for World War II military service February 1943 and served three years in Fort Francis E. Warren, Cheyenne, WY as an instructor in field baking. He prepared troops to meet the needs of the various conditions under which fighting troops might be assigned. He returned to Los Angeles to his former position with Continental when discharged February 1946. During the 40 years in this business, he enjoyed positions with other companies including Langendorf United Bakeries, Pacific Cracker Co. and lastly with Truex-Imhoff Co., Food Brokers, as Vice President, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Los Angeles Sales Managers Club for a number of years as well as Los Angeles Food Brokers group. He was a former member of Los Posas Country Club in Camarillo, CA and Stockdale Country Club, locally. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years; two sisters-in-law, Mary Morrison of Bakersfield, Connie Spencer of Visalia and a brother-in-law, Robert Reichardt of Ames, IA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand- nieces and nephews. They are all located outside the Southern California area except for David Morrisons family, who are local residents, and whose caring help has been of great comfort. The Family wishes to thank their loving family members, friends, and former business associates both far and wide, for their support during Darwins illness. They also thank Dr. Byron Mui and staff, Dr. William Bezdeck and staff and the Hoffmann Hospice group. It was Darwins request that no funeral or memorial service be conducted.
