Mrs. Maclin was born in Joplin, Missouri, and spent most of her life in Bakersfield, CA. She graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1933 and became an active and well-known member of the local community. She served as a Kern County Deputy Sheriff for a number of years, and being married to a World War II Veteran, she also was a Ladies Auxiliary member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving in a number of leadership positions within those organizations. She also was a dedicated activist in support of the Democratic Party, its candidates and causes. Her husband, Oscar Maclin; her parents, Naomi and David Sceales; a sister, Nena Mongold and her brother, Ercle Sceales, predeceased Mrs. Maclin. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Richard Little; a daughter, Donna White and her husband, Gene White of Winfall, NC; a son, Gary Short and his wife, Kay Short of Bakersfield, CA. Mrs. Maclin is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at the Mish Funeral Home Oildale Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27th. Visitation will take place prior to Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Maclin will be interred with her husband at the Greenlawn Southwest Columbarium at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimers Disease Association of Kern Co., 5500 Olive Dr., Bakersfield, CA 93308.
