Earl was born in Andover, SD on April 11, 1916, to Emil and Martha Schauland. His family moved to Nebraska where he later met and married the former Vivian Nelson, in Seward, NE in 1939. The couple moved to California in 1945, settling in Delano to raise their family. Earl taught school in the Delano schools before becoming principal at Fremont School, where he remained until his retirement. Earl and Vivian moved to Visalia in 1983, and spent their remaining years there. Earls love was educating children, but he truly enjoyed traveling, gardening, and especially spending time with his family. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his brother; his two sisters; and his son, Bill Schauland. He is survived by his sisters, Erna Beyer of Ft. Collins, CO, Bernice Hoden of Greeley, CO, Naomi Nolan of Ft. Mills, SC.; son, Doug Schauland of Visalia; daughter-in-law, Donna Schauland (widow of Bill Schauland) of Tulare, CA; grandchildren, Jeff Schauland and wife, Gina of Visalia, CA, and Ryan Schauland of Visalia, CA; along with nieces, nephews, and many friends. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26, 2005 from 5 7 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave. in Visalia, CA. Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Visalia District Cemetery, Visalia, CA. Burial will follow at Visalia District Cemetery.
