Amundsen Feb. 18, 1925 - Jan. 23, 2005 Eva Lavon Larsen Amundsen passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday evening, January 23, 2005. She bravely and gracefully fought her battle with cancer with great dignity, faith and love for all those who shared this experience with her. She was born in New Jersey but made Bakersfield her home for the majority of her life. As a young mother, she spent a period of years in the Bakersfield Philharmonic Orchestra (now the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra) playing her violin. While raising her six children, she completed her education at Fresno State in 1964 and then spent the ensuing years as a teacher at McKinley School, Norris School District and most recently Highland School District, where she was well loved and respected. She also spent the last 18 years tutoring many special children in her home in the afternoons. Due to her health she gave up her Highland students in 2003 and her tutoring students at the end of November 2004. She was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many capacities to the end. Her most cherished memories were the times spent with her family and nuturing her many friendships. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Hyrum J. Amundsen; six children, daughter and son-in-law, Lavonne and Roger McCumber, of Bakersfield, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Laurine Amundsen of Provo, Utah; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Donnie Whetstine of Dana Point, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Janet Dee and Steven Krumm of Forest Grove, Oregon; son and daughter-in-law, Roland and Carolyn Amundsen of Mission Viejo, CA; and daughter, Rebecca Amundsen of Santa Barbara, CA. Also surviving are her cherished 29 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous dear nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2005, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 316 A Street, Bakersfield, CA. Visitation is scheduled at Bakersfield Family Funeral Directors, 701-34th Street, Bakersfield, CA on Saturday, January 29, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. She will be sorely missed but always lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of being touched by her life and her sweet, loving, caring spirit. The family especially thanks the Kaiser Doctors, Nurses and Staff and the Nurses, Staff and Volunteers of Optimal Hospice for their great love in attending to her every need.
