Persinger October 23, 1913 - January 28, 2005 Visitation for Harriet Persinger will be held at Bakersfield Family Funeral Directors, 701 34th Street (across from Memorial Hospital) on Monday, January 31, 2005, from 3 6 p.m. Harriet J. Slutz was born October 23, 1913, in Allen, Nebraska, to Harris and Nola Slutz. She was one of seven siblings. Her only surviving sibling is Dean Slutz of Pharaump, NV. Upon completion of high school, Harriet obtained her teaching certificate from Wayne Teachers College in Wayne, Nebraska, and began teaching grade school in a one-room schoolhouse. Harriets original teaching contract also required her to provide the fuel for the wood stove and many of the janitorial duties. In May of 1932, Harriet married Milton T. Persinger and began their family. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; and son, Thomas. She is survived by her son, Lee and his wife, Shirley; her daughters, Sally Gallaugher and her husband, Robert, Shirley Neher and husband, LeRoy; son, Father Patrick J. Persinger; daughters, Maureen Palmer and husband, Paul, Sue Vartanian and husband, Phillip; sons, Tim and wife, Judy, Terry and wife, Linda, Lanny and wife, Deborah; daughters, Delores Waide and Pamela Adame; son, James and wife, Midge; and daughter, Liz Scott and husband, Steve. 36 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren also survive her. Harriet resided in Bakersfield much of the time after 1964. She was actively involved in B.A.R.C., St. Phillips Catholic Church, Friends of the Library, and enjoyed reading to the children at local libraries. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harriets grandsons, Mark and Lee Turner, Sean and Jeff Persinger, Geno Hunt, Frank Persinger, Jeremiah Persinger, and David Warkentin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to B.A.R.C.
