Marie Slikker Anderson was born on January 22, 1917, in Guernsey, CA, to Cornelius and Elizabeth (DeGeus) Slikker. She was raised on a dairy farm in Tulare and moved with her family to Bakersfield in 1934. In 1935 she graduated from Bakersfield High School. She worked at J.J. Newberrys until she married Meryl E. Anderson from McFarland in 1941 and moved to the family farm on Pond Road. Marie resided there until 1999 when a fire destroyed the family home. She then retired to Rosewood Retirement Community in Bakersfield. Marie was always involved with her children: PTA, Jobs Daughters, 4-H. She was also active in the McFarland Womens Club, Delano Hospital Pink Ladies, Delano First United Methodist Church and the Pinochle Pot-Luck group. She will be remembered for her sewing, knitting, crocheting and her luscious lemon meringue pies. Marie loved playing cards but she especially enjoyed her Bridge club groups in McFarland and Delano and in later years at Rosewood. Dont grieve for me, for now Im free. Im following the path God laid for me. My lifes been full, Ive savored much; good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Meryl in 1987, her sister, Cora Veldhuis and her brother, John Slikker. She is survived by her children, Betty Ann Johnson and husband, Nate of Fresno, Janice Reed and husband, Bill of San Mateo, Stan Anderson and wife, Brenda of Bakersfield; son-in-law, Ron Massey of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Brian Massey of Venice, Brandon Massey of Manhattan Beach, Derrick Reed and wife, Angela of Santa Monica, Melissa Macko and husband, Steve of Burlingame, Jayme Huens and husband, Brian of Bakersfield and April and Andrew Anderson of Bakersfield; five great- grandchildren, Anais, Trevor and Ella Macko and Victoria and Michael Reed; her brother, Bill Slikker and wife, Hazel of Bakersfield; sister-in-law, Bertha Anderson of McFarland; brother-in-law, Herman Anderson and wife, Ethyl of Tulare and sister-in-law, Margie Anderson of Florida.
