Gladys Viola Lewis was born December 17, 1904 in Portales, New Mexico, and passed away Janaury 31, 2005, in Bakersfield, CA, at the age of 100. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Lewis; her father and mother, Sherrod and Evelena Hatley; brothers, Gerald Hatley and S.A. Hatley and Truett Hatley; sister, Vera Lathem; three great-grandchildren, Shelby Stevens, Janice OBryant and Bryson Pfeffer; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Gladys is survived by her five children, Kenneth and Sara Lewis, Barbara and Dennis OBryant, Claudette Welch-Patton and Buck, Sandra and Curtis Grubbs and Linda and Hal Crossley; grandchildren, Gail and Tommy Davis, Dennis and Sharon OBryant II, Kurtis and Kim Lewis, Kirk Lewis, Joan and Kent Pfeffer, Michelle and John Nobles, Sherrod and Jennifer Allen, Scott and Lori Allen, Jason and Amy Crossley and Chris Crossley; great-grandchildren, Ky Stevens, Jennifer OBryant, Andrew OBryant, Reid Lewis, Erika Lewis, Taylor Pfeffer, Branson Pfeffer, Preston Pfeffer, Justin Allen, Alyssa Allen, Emily Crossley, Eric Crossley, Nathan Crossley, Kayla Hansen and Jessica Nobles; great-great-grandchildren, Justine and Jeremiah Hansen; brothers, Richard, Lloyd and James Hatley; sisters, Doris Barker, Eudell DeVasure; and many cousins and nieces and nephews. Gladys was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a devout Christian and truly a Proverbs 31 woman. She grew up in Texas where she met her beloved husband, Claude Lewis, and were married September 23, 1925. She moved to Bakersfield, in March 1968 after the death of Claude. She resided in Bakersfield for the remainder of her life. The family wishes to thank the staff of Evergreen Health Care for the love and care they showed to Gladys during her stay there for the past 3 years, and a special thanks to Brisha Julifs for all the love and care she gave to our beloved Mother. Pallbearers will be Sherrod Allen, Kent Pfeffer, Jason Crossley, Buck Patton, Curtis Grubbs and Taylor Pfeffer.
