Mettler 10/25/1911 - 1/30/2005 Funeral services will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home for Alvin E. Mettler, age 93, on Saturday, February 5, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., at the Ebenezer Reformed Church, 235 James St., Shafter. Interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Pastor Vernon Pollema will officiate at the service. Visitation will be Friday, February 4, 2-8 p.m. Alvin E. Mettler died January 30, 2005, in Shafter, California. He was born October 25, 1911, in Menno, South Dakota, and moved to Shafter with his family in 1921, where he farmed on his parents land as a young man. In 1935, he married Olive R. Schnaidt, also of Shafter, and continued to farm on his own land north of Shafter until his death. He was a life-time, active member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Shafter, serving as Elder for 6 years. Alvin is survived by his wife, Olive; his daughter, Marion Mettler of La Jolla, CA; his son, Kenneth Mettler of Walnut Creek, CA; a granddaughter, Amanda Murphy of Seattle, WA; and a grandson, David Mettler of New York City. One of ten children, he is survived by three brothers, Aduel Mettler of Shafter, Ruben Mettler of Los Angeles, and Elmer Mettler of Sacramento; three sisters, Hildegarde Rose of Shafter, Irene Dains of Sacramento and Elsie Warren of Shafter. During his long, happy and productive life, Alvin was a source of strength, humor, and guidance to his family, who will miss him greatly.
