He was born in Redondo Beach, California on October 25, 1920 to Lester and Luella Stanley. He graduated from Torrance High School in 1938. He served in the United States from 1942 to 1945, serving on a PT boat in Australia and New Guinea. Following his discharge, he attended Long Beach City College and UCLA. He married Kathleen Allgaier in Reno, Nevada on October 8, 1950. The couple made their home in Taft, CA, Bakersfield, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Chicago, IL and Dallas, TX. Lester was employed as a Salesman for Armco Steel Corporation for 43 years, retiring in 1984. The couple returned to Bakersfield, California that same year and then moved to Visalia, California in 1999. He was a member of Grace Community Church of Visalia and of Gideons International. Lester was an avid golfer, enjoyed working around his home, playing bridge and traveling. He especially enjoyed the times spent with his family. Survivors include his wife, Kay Stanley of Visalia, CA; daughter, Claudia Duarte of Visalia, CA; sisters, Audrey Weller of Santa Maria, CA and Lorraine Hafner of Falls Church, VA; granddaughters, Kathleen Duarte of Visalia, CA, Adrienne Duarte of Visalia, CA and Sarah Duarte of San Luis Obispo, CA. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004, 10:00 a.m., at the Visalia District Cemetery in Visalia, California.
