Mary Jane was born on February 5, 1930 in Whittier, CA. She was the youngest child of Emma Geraldine and Verlo Cauffman. At a young age, she moved with her family to the Westside. She attended local schools, graduating from Taft Union High School in 1947. In October of the next year, she married the love of her life, Charlie. After briefly living in Alaska and Florida, they made their home in Taft. They enjoyed almost 36 years together before Charlies untimely death. Two sons, Dr. Kelly C. Reed and his wife, Deborah, and David C. Reed and his wife, Debbie survive Mary Jane. She is also survived by her older brother, Charles Cauffman; grandchildren, Lisa Artz, Jason Reed and wife, Tammy, Jordan Reed and wife, Bethany, Earnie White, Jessica Carter and husband, Benny; nephew, Chris Cauffman; niece, Janice Della Miagorre and husband, Reni and 11 great-grandchildren. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Verlo and Emma Geraldine Cauffman; brother, Bill Cauffman and husband, Charles Reed. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday from 3;00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home. A private graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday in the West Side District Cemetery. All funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you may make a contribution to Optimal Hospice of Bakersfield or Forward Edge Ministry, c/o Kelly and Deborah Reed, 15121-A N.E. 72nd Ave., Vancouver, WA 98686, or a charity of your choice.
