A graveside veterans service will follow with the Military Honor Guard at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary. On February 3, 2005, Duane Lee DuVall entered into eternal and everlasting life with is Lord Jesus Christ. He was a man of very deep faith and loyal commitment. Duane was born on October 7, 1926 in Hattieville, Arkansas. He was the oldest of twelve children of Lee (Doc) DuVall and Ethel Powell DuVall. Duane passed away after a short illness in Bakersfield, California at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by 2 infant brothers, Vernon and Donald; his beloved daughter Patsy Lee DuVall; his parents Lee and Ethel DuVall; brother Wayland DuVall; and sister Johnnie Wheaton. Duane is survived by his beloved wife Mildred DuVall; and two children Beverly Crawford and Rich Crawford, Timothy DuVall and his wife Sandra DuVall; grandchildren Chris Harris, Shaun Harris and Tonya DuVall Lynch; and step- grandchildren Alan Crawford, Heidi Crawford Dinan, and Brian Crawford; the great-grandchildren Joeleen Harris, Elizabeth Harris, Emily Harris, Joshua Lynch, Olivia Crawford, Joshua Crawford, and Kelsi Elliott. Also survived by his three brothers JM DuVall, Lendell DuVall, and Larry DuVall; and four sisters Daphene Bewley, Marlene Webb, Sherry Dunn, and Brenda Williams; also, seven brothers-in-law and five sisters- in-law; along with a host of nieces and nephews and friends. He attended Hattievelle School. Duane farmed using a team of mules in his youth. He enlisted in the US Army during WWII and served in the 6th Air Service Group, 9th Communications Squadron Wing in the Philippines. Also, he achieved the rank of Buck Sergeant and awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Victory Ribbon, and Overseas Service Bar. The Lapel button was issued ASR Score, received by very few soldiers. He received basic training in the last U.S. Mounted Cavalry with the Second Squadron, First Regiment C.R.T.C. Fort Riley. Upon leaving the military on December 8, 1946, he returned home and married Mildred Proctor of Atkins, Arkansas; a marriage that lasted 57 1/2yrs. They said when they met, they were meant for each other. Mildred said, Duane always lights up my life. They lost their first child, Patsy Lee DuVall, born on June 1, 1948, who died hours after her birth. Then eleven months later came Beverly and twenty months later came Tim. In November 1951, Duane and Mildred packed up their young family and moved to Stratford, California. Duane went to work in agriculture. Later he operated and managed a cold storage at Delano. In 1966 the family moved to Bakersfield and in 1967 opened the Union 76 at Taft Highway. Duane owned and managed the station until he retired on October 31, 1988. Duane and Mildred were active members of Liberty Christian Church since 1968. Duane served as deacon and also on the board for several years. Duane will always be remembered as a kind, loving, generous, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love and commitment to his family, God and his friends will always be remembered and his loss will be greatly felt. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
