Johanna Marie Kelleher
Aug. 12, 1933 - Feb. 5, 2005

Born and raised in New York City to Irish immigrant parents, Joan or Mom or 
Grandma K, as she was lovingly known to her family and friends, lived in three 
places: NYC (28 yrs.), the northwest suburbs of Chicago, IL (27 yrs.) and 
Bakersfield, CA (16 yrs.). 

Primarily a homemaker, she devoted her time and energies to her family. It was 
her lifes work. In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, she 
loved pets, books, movies, family trips and her occasional jaunts, ususally 
lucrative, to las Vegas.

Survived by her husband and partner of 52 years, John (Jack), she was the 
loving mother of four children: daughter, Irene (Boris) and husband, Gerry of 
Madison, WI; son, Jack and wife, Debbie of West Dundee, IL; daughter, Jo-Ann 
(Standridge) and husband, Greg, of Palatine, IL; and daughter, Nora (Kieffer) 
and husband, Andy of Lake Zurich, IL.

Her legacy also includes 10 surviving grandchildren. Whether by phone or when 
together, she received as much joy and love as she gave to them: Erin, Anna, 
Michael, Sean, Jackie, Brendan, Colleen, Brian, Joe and Conor.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Hannah McCarthy; two 
sisters, Catherine (Rocke) and Mary (Lafferty) and brother, Daniel, along with 
infant twin grandsons. 

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, immediately followed by 
a Rosary service at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary (661) 366-5766. Funeral 
Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 10th, at Our Lady of 
Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bakersfield. Her final resting place will be 
at St. Michaels the Archangel in Palatine, IL.

Pallbearers at the Bakersfield service will include: Gene Anderson, George 
Caratan, Tony Cueto, Egan Gost, Pete Salter and Martin Zaninovich.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Johannas name to: American Lung 
Association of Kern County (CA), 4700 American Avenue, Suite 100, Bakersfield, 
CA 93309.

Also, the family would like to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful care 
provided by Dr. Nick Hansa and the staff of the Bakersfield Heart Hospital.
