The family moved to Bakersfield in 1952. He graduated from Bakersfield High School, class of 1964. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal from 1966 to 1970. He and his wife of 38 years, Lynn, were married on April 15, 1967. Larry rode the railroads as a switchman with Santa Fe from 1971 to 1975. He began work at Consolidated Fiberglas in 1975, holding the position of Administrative Vice President at the time of his death. He passed away suddenly Monday, February 7th in San Joaquin Hospital, as a result of very aggressive melanoma. Larry was a longtime member and elder at First Presbyterian Church. He loved the Lord and his family, and adored his granddaughters. He was devoted to his work, Rams football, the USMC, coaching and mentoring, golf and marathoning, and many other interests. Larry had a gift for coming alongside and encouraging people in their time of need. Always part of the solution rather than the problem, he was never one to complain. Larry is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter, Laurie and Kurt Hettinger; granddaughters, Haley and Claire Hettinger; son, Staff Sgt. John Bennett (USMC); father and mother-in-law, John and Anne Lenick; sister, Sharon McMillin; niece, Brenda Nellor and husband, Robert and great-niece, Kayla McMillin. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 10th at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to the First Presbyterian Church Albanian Mission Ministry.
