Dr. Larry Dotson will officiate. Dora Mae Simmons was born on August 25, 1920 to Walter and Naomi Murray in Butler, Oklahoma. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 9, 2005 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walt; and numerous brothers and sisters. In the later 1930s Dora came to Bakesfield where she met, and later married, Walton. They were married for almost 53 years until his death in 1994. Dora was a devoted housewife, homemaker, mother, granny and great-grandma. She loved to knit, crochet and make quilts for her loved ones. She was an excellent cook and always had homemade cookies and the worlds greatest caramel corn for the grandkids. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and taking walks with her dogs. She was an active and faithful member of her church, where for many years she taught Sunday school. She loved the Lord and was a Psalms 31 woman of God. Dora leaves behind her son, Walton, Jr. and his wife, Janet and their children, Leah and Cameron; her son, Richard and his wife, Debra; grandchildren, Dan and David Towery, David, Heather and Jack Dickson, Joshua and their mother, Sharon. Her pride and joy was her only great-grandson, Gabriel Dickson. Also mourning her passing are her sister, Rhoda Pete Beaver and husband, Bud; and their children, Rhonda, Debbie, Ralph and Peggy; sisters, Dorothy Brown, Betty and Elsie Simmons and her brother, Jess Murray.
