"Liz" Moore 1908 - 2005 Services will be held for Liz Moore, age 97, at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Ln., on Monday, February 14, at 10:00 a.m. Born February 4, 1908, Liz was the third child of a family of seven children born in McDowell County, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by all, including her only beloved brother who died in the Anzio Beachhead battle in 1944. After divorcing her first husband, Alex Hedrick, she moved to Arbutus, MD (suburb of Baltimore) to raise her two daughters; she became employed at Westinghouse Electric. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Harry F. Moore. He preceded her in death in 1967 and she remained a widow. She moved to Florida in 1969 to start a new life, which included the new challenge of learning to play golf. In 1980 she moved to Bakersfield to be close to her family. She was a devout lady who had a great love for the Lord and her Church. She was very active in the Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church and her life revolved around her much loved family and her church activities, including the Dorcas Society where she enjoyed sewing and mending clothing for the needy. She also enjoyed bowling and received her last bowling trophy at age 88. She drove her car until age 92 and her grandchildren liked to tease her about their hot-rod grannie. She was an elegant lady with impeccable taste in dress and fashion. Her loving family is so proud of her many accomplishments at her age. Liz is survived by her two daughters of Bakersfield, Fran Gregg and husband, Dave, and Lura Anna Dennis; grandchildren, Cheryl VanBeek and husband, Cornelius of Fresno; W. Brian Spaulding of Bakersfield; and Tracey Gibson and husband, Jim of Merced; three great-grandchildren, Tara Gibson, and Jacob and Michael VanBeek; her very special stepson, Dennis Moore and family of Upper Marlboro, MD and many nieces, and great-nieces and nephews. She passed away from complications of pneumonia. The family is very grateful to Hoffmann Hospice and Parkview Julian for their excellent care during her last days. She was greatly admired and loved by her family and many friends, and she will always be remembered by the example she set in her life for her healthful living, her love of God and her wonderful sense of humor. She was the matriarch of her family, a precious lady who will be sorely missed. She now sleeps, awaiting the coming of her Lord, when she will hear her name called to be caught up with Him. Visitation will be just prior to the service. Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary Funeral Directors Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
