Edward Dean 'Bud' Taylor
Sep. 24, 1933 - Feb. 11, 2005

Visitation for Edward Dean Taylor will be held at Basham Funeral Care Chapel 
(3312 Niles St.) on Monday evening, February 14, 2005 from 5 8 p.m. and Mass 
of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 
(124 Columbus St.) on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. Interment will 
follow at Greenlawn Cemetery (River Blvd.) 

Edward Dean Taylor, know by most as Bud, came to California as a child, by way 
of Oklahoma. His parents, Charles and Mary, who preceded him in death, settled 
in Arvin, California, where Bud grew up and subsequently graduated from Arvin 
High School. Having wreaked enough havoc on the Arvin area, he decided to join 
the United States Air Force to see the world; he managed to make it as far as 
Goose Bay, Labrador.

While on leave, he met and eventually married, Barbara Watkins the love of his 
life and together they lived in Las Vegas until Bud completed his military 
service. They then moved to Delano, California, where Bud was the parts 
manager for San Joaquin Tractor Company, and in 1959, he was hired as a deputy 
sheriff with the Kern County Sheriffs Department. While in their employ, Bud 
rose through the ranks, and after 28 years of service, retired as a lieutenant 
in 1987.

Bud and Barbara enjoyed RVing with friends and family, getting together with 
long-lost high school companions, and family gatherings to celebrate almost 
any occasion. Bud passed away after a short but courageous fight with lung 
cancer. We will miss his incredible sense of humor, knack for story telling, 
enormous personal generosity, and unconditional love.

I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I loved today.

Bud is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Taylor; son and daughter-in-
law, Timothy and Patricia Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Dennis 
Johnston; 5 grandchildren, Trent, Kiel, Jaclyn, Bryan, and Julia; sister, June 
Doremus; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Jim Donohue; brother-in-
law and sister-in-law, Lynn and Cheryl Watkins. He is also survived by 
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
