Marjorie was born to Malcolm and Edith Bland, in Concordia, Kansas, December 23, 1901, the oldest of seven children. When her mother died in 1917, Marjorie dropped out of high school to help her father with the care and support of the younger children. One of her proudest moments later in life was when she completed the requirements for her high school diploma and graduated with the Kern County Adult Education Class of 1998, at the age of 96. Marjorie was a devout Christian, and after retirement she became a par 3 golfer and avid bingo player. She was primarily a loving mother and grandmother and good friend to many. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Cantrell (Ted); grandsons, Brian Elliott (Nancy), Pete Hurley (Criss), David Cantrell (Deann); granddaughter, Diane Parker, Karen Swogger (Robin), Cynthia Hurley (Jerry Heap), Suzanne Bruno (Paul), Cherie Martin (Ollie), Michelle Urpsis (Alan); granddaughter-in- law, Mary Joan Hurley; son-in-law, Donald Parker; step-grandchildren, Linda Spartz (Philip) and Steven Castro(Peggy). There are also 31 great- grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren, many of whom remember her as a loving Granny who stepped in when needed in their early years. Our thanks to the staff of Parkview Julian who gave her such loving attention these last six months. Memorial donations may be made to your charity of choice.
