Lawrence was born on Aug. 29, 1924 in Fayetteville, Ark. to George and Beulah Drain. On Feb. 1, 1946, Lawrence married the love of his life, Mary Edna McClelland. That marriage lasted 50 years until Edna passed away on Nov. 27, 1996. The couple moved to the Tehachapi area in 1946 and remained here, raising their two sons and one daughter. Lawrence, after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, went to work at Monolith Cement Company through a private contractor, Al Long. Lawrence worked at that position as a welder for almost 20 years before leaving to begin work, again as a welder, for U.S. Borax. He retired from Borax 18 years ago. After retirement, Lawrence had more time for his many interests. He particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also found time to garden and feed the many birds in his yard. Lawrence was an avid collector of many things. He was also a member of numerous organizations such as the Tehachapi Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, the National Rifle Association and California Rifle and Pistol Association. He was also very supportive of his wife Edna's many talents and crafts. Lawrence is survived by his two sons, Paul Drain and wife Diane of San Ramon and Phillip Drain and wife Alison of Camarillo; daughter, Sharon “Darlene” Collins and husband Donald of Clovis; grandchildren, Scott Drain, Megan Pierson, Aaron Collins, Matthew Collins, Christopher Drain and Kevin Drain; great-grandchildren, Hunter Lawrence Collins and Alexis Collins; sister, Wave Housholder; sister-in-law, Karlene Drain; and numerous nieces and nephews. The brethren of the Tehachapi Masonic Lodge will officiate at the service. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will do the military honors at the graveside. Interment will take place at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to the deceased.
