He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Pauline, his parents, James and Fannie Paddock, and his 5 siblings. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Gary and Catherine, Larry and Kathryn, and Tom and Colleen; he had 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.. Robert was born in Bonanza, Oregon, September 30, 1915. He moved to Bakersfield with his family in 1920, where he attended local schools, graduation from Kern County Union High School in 1933. Following graduation he served for 9 months in the Civilian Conservation Corps, 4 years in the U.S. Navy, and worked as a motorman for the Kern Electric Railway for 2 years. In April of 1940 he joined Bakersfield City Fire Department, rising to the rank of Chief in August 1968. He retired after 32 years of service. Subsequent to retirement he assumed full time duties as a member of the Board of Directors of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Bakersfield. Throughout his adult years he was active in scouting and counseling United Methodist Youth Fellowship groups. He was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He served on the boards of the Society of Disabled Children, Bakersfield City Employees Federal Credit Union, California State Firemans Association and Bakersfield Firemans Relief Association. Robert was a member of the Bakersfield Masonic Order for more than 50 years. Services will be held Thursday, July 8th at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, followed by burial at Union Cemetery. Viewing will take place on Wednesday, July 7th from 2-8 p.m. at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary, Bakersfield. Memorial gifts, if desired, may be made in his name to Society for Disabled Children.
