H. Eugene Burmeister
9/29/1925 - 1/22/2005

H. Eugene Burmeister of Bakersfield, CA died on January 22, 2005, at 
Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. Eugene was born in Marion, Iowa on September 
29, 1925 to August and Daisy Betcher Burmeister. He taught school for 30 years 
and was the author of seven published books. He was President for two terms at 
the Kern County Historical Society. Eugene was also a newspaper columnist for 
over 12 years, President of the Vineland District Teachers Association. He 
taught at the Pleasant View School and became a Social Worker for Tulare and 
Kern County. He was Principal-Teacher at Caliente School, a Teacher-Principal 
at Sunset School. He moved to Apple Valley and Victorville and worked part-
time as an instructor at Victor Valley College. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert. Survivors 
include one first cousin, Pauline Breed from marion, IA and several cousins, 
as well as many foster boys and good friends, including Maria Gayton who took 
such good care of him during his illness and David Kelley of Bakersfield. 

There will be no services.
