The family moved to Bakersfield in 1941 where she attended Beardsley School and Kern Union High School. In 1951 she married Gus Kangles and had two children, Nick and Dina. They were in the crop dusting and farming business and built and owned the Farm House Restaurant in Mettler. Three years after the tragic loss of her husband Gus to a crop dusting accident, she met and married Ross Mortensen. For seventeen years they enjoyed playing golf and traveling to various parts of the world until he passed away in 1978. During her remaining years she did what she was most passionate about, serving her Lord Jesus Christ and enjoying her grandchildren. Shi is survived by her son, Nick Kangles and wife, Cindy; daughter, Dina Keigley and husband, John; brothers, Donald Hammers and wife Erlene, Elton Hammers and wife Gelene, Garland Hammer and wife Elizabeth; sister, Ruthanne Phillips and husband Don; granddaughters, Kelsea Linnell and husband, David, Kylea Kangles and Kandea Kangles; stepdaughter, Eve Simmons and husband Tom of Encinitas. We wish to express sincere appreciation to all her neighbors who for many years assisted her when she called upon them at all hours, and to their children, who she loved, nurtured and wanted to pass on to them the values of everyday life.
