Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 825 California Ave., Bakersfield, CA. Officiating is Rev. H.T. Calhoun On April 22, 1986, a baby boy, Louis Earl Steele was born in Bakersfield, CA, to Andrew and Gracie Steele. Louis attended McKinley Elementary School where he participated in the Boys Ensemble, Emerson Jr. High School, and Bakersfield High School. He also was involved with The Real Man and Teen Theater programs at Ebony Counseling Center. Louis loved going to church and confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Union Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. John Turner. Louis loved being with his family and friends, making people laugh, and listening to gospel music, but most of all playing the drums at church. Louis began playing the drums at the age of 13 and he played for various churches in Bakersfield. Louis united with the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H.T. Calhoun. At Mt. Zion, Louis was active in the Junior Brotherhood and the music department where he served as a drummer for the Youth and Sanctuary Choirs. As Louis began to grow spiritually, he began to have a desire to fellowship with other young Christians. Even though Mt. Zion was his home, he had other churches that he called home which were dear to his heart. Those being Bread of Life Ministries and Saints Memorial C.O.G.I.C. where he participated in the youth choir. Louis learned many trades from his father such as doing lawns and video taping weddings and family gatherings. Louis loved attending family gatherings and watching sports with his family. He really loved spending time with his mom, who he loved very much. Louis will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for his family, his love for gospel music, his for playing the drums, but most of all his love for God. This love was evident because he was always trying to get someone to go to church with him. Louis leaves to cherish his memory, his father and mother Andrew and Gracie Steele; four brothers, Andrew, Lawrence, and Paul Steele of Bakersfield, CA and Elihue Lee of Anchorage, Alaska; five sisters, Deborah McCoy and husband DeWayne, Maggie, Angie, and Melissa Steele of Bakersfield, CA and Adrian Lee of Atlanta, GA. He also leaves a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as his adopted family James and Marie Tyson and his Mt. Zion, Bread of Life, and Saints Memorial Church families.
