She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Alice Goodrich and her sister Lavern Simmons. She is survived by husband Ray, four children, thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sisters Beverly Baker, Brenda Harbin and numerous nieces and nephews. Prior to their marriage, her ambition was to be a professional dancer or a concert pianist. She played professionally and had the God given talent of playing by ear. If you could hum a tune, she could play it. She gave piano and organ lessons professionally. She also taught several grandchildren. She and her son entertained at numerous convalescent homes and civic organizations. Despite having polio at a very young age, she was a good athlete excelling in softball. For years, Ray tried to get her interested in golf, but she thought it was a silly game. It was on the first tee at North Kern they met Bernie and Betty Dixon. They became good friends and traveling companions. Then, Evelyn became hooked on golf. In 1986, they moved to Golden Hills in Tehachapi. She took an active part in the Womens Club at Golden Hills and Stallion Springs. During their stay in Tehachapi, she played the keyboard during the dinner hours at the Country Club. She also provided the music for a Melodrama production. She was a charter member of the East Bakersfield American Legion Auxiliary and of the Kern General Hospital Auxiliary. As the wife of an elected official of Kern County, she made friends with many people throughout Kern County of all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds. She and Ray spent many enjoyable hours with members of the Latin American community. They were privileged to serve as Grand Marshals of the Mexican Independence Day parade. She will long be remembered as the lady with the infectious smile. The family wants to express their gratitude to Dr. Devasia, numerous outstanding nurses and CNAs for the excellent and loving care rendered during her last days. We will long be indebted to Hoffman Hospice for the care provided our loved one. It was her wish there be no funeral service. In her memory, donations can be made to Hoffman Hospice or to organizations studying neurological disorders. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
