John was born on June 2, 1923, to Mary and Frank Harrison. He passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005, in his home, surrounded by his family. He worked for the original Rufeners Drug Store/Soda Fountain and Southern Pacific Railroad. John was a United States Marine veteran, 2nd Division. He served his country proudly in the Pacific during WWII, from December 3, 1942, until December 8, 1946. He continued working for Southern Pacific Railroad when he returned from the war. John married his red head, Melba Elizabeth (Melba Jo) on January 14, 1948. John joined the Bakersfield Police Dept., in 1953, where he was a patrolman, motorcycle officer, and retired as a detective in 1965. He especially enjoyed old movies, big band music, family poker games, and family. John was a 46 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #93, 50 year member of the Caledonia Lodge #486, Free and Accepted Masons and 32 Degree Mason, Scottish Rites Order. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Melba; brother, Harry; and his parents. He is survived by his daughters, Louise Kadrovach, Patty Gamblin, and Jonnie Guerra; granddaughters, Tina Donovan and Michelle Gamblin; sons-in-law, Ron Gamblin and Lee Guerra; grandsons, Michael Guerra and wife, Jennifer, Paul Guerra and fiancé, Patty Ramirez; great grandchildren, Joseph, Matt, Kelley, and Logan Donovan, Nevada Arnold, and Jessica Guerra; sister, Helen Goldman- Harrison; sisters-in-law, Ratha Criqui and Doris (Dee) Lewis; brother-in-law, Bill (B.T.) Lewis and wife, Dottie; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones, friends, and Barney his cat. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Optimal Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to Optimal Hospice Care of Bakersfield, or a charity of your choice in Johns memory.
