He was born July 21, 1922 in Taft and graduated from Taft High School. He was a 50-year member of the Taft Masonic Lodge and recently received the Golden Veterans Award from the California Grand Masonic Lodge. Jack served in the Army during World War II. He spent his life being a loving husband for 62 years to his wife, Edith Stewart Cooper, as well as a devoted father and grandfather. He started his working career with Richfield Oil Co. in Taft. He and his family spent 20 years in Alaska, where he worked for Coastal Drilling and Parker Drilling Co. Upon their return to Kern County, Jack worked for Berry Holding Co. before retiring. He and Edith spent 18 years of retirement in Brookings, Ore. and then returned to Bakersfield. Jack was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Edith, his son Wesley Ross Cooper and his daughter Gloria Jean Marston. He is survived by his son A.T. “Chris” Cooper and daughter-in-law Dianne, with whom he lived in Stallion Springs. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Connie and husband Rick Cormier of Slidell, La.; Tim and wife Michele Cooper of Bakersfield; Keely Cooper and fiancé Loren Williams of Arlington, Texas; Teena and husband David Steele of Union, Ore.; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Evelyn and husband Art Radar of Grants Pass, Ore., and Jeanne Cooper of Los Angeles; and sister-in-law Betty O’Brien of Taft. As to Mr. Cooper’s wishes, there were no services. Cremation arrangements were handled by Wood Family Funeral Services. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to the deceased.
