Graveside services will be held at Union Cemetery on Monday morning, March 7, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Chaplain Bob Winter will officiate. Melesio Mendoza, Jr. passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in Bakersfield. Mel was born September 21, 1923 in San Angelo, Texas. He has gone on now to join his parents, Melesio and Cipriana; brothers, Joe (Lolo) Mendoza, Ernesto Mendoza; sister, Ciria Mendoza Munoz and his little brother, Samuel Mendoza. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mercedes Delgado Mendoza. Mel was proud to be a Texan and especially proud to be a G.I. Veteran. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He especially loved participating in the Bakersfield Veterans Day Parades. Mel was an experienced pipe layer and was very proud of his work and his years with Laborers Local 591 in Santa Barbara. He was raised in Bakersfield and later moved and lived in Santa Barbara for 27 years. He and Mercy moved back to Bakersfield in 1986. Mel enjoyed parties, family barbecues and weddings and he was a good dancer. He always offered his help to fix anything, you never had to ask. He was very proud of us and never failed to tell us so. In addition to his beloved wife, Mercy, he will be missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Charles Saavedra of Santa Barbara; daughter and son- in-law, Rachel and Bruce Iddings of Washington; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and John Rivera of Bakersfield; daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Juan Ibarra of Bakersfield; son and daughter-in-law, Ruben and Brenda Mendoza of Bakersfield; son, Daniel Mendoza of Bakersfield; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Carlos Ceja of Santa Barbara; 22 grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives. Grandson pallbearers will be Ruben Mendoza Jr., James Rivera, Andre Vallejo, James Saavedra, Phillip Saavedra, Alex Vallejo, Mark Ibarra and Rudy Mendoza.
