He was born on April 7, 1922, in Durham, Kansas to Ferdinand and Anna Frantz, the 5th of 7 children. He came to California with his family in 1936, and they settled in the Wasco area. He married Joanne Becker on March 3, 1946, in Shafter and they were married one day shy of 59 years. Dan is survived by his loving wife and their 5 children and their spouses: Karen (and Ray) Enns of Reedley, Terry (and Annette) Frantz of Grapevine, TX, Brenda (and Danny) Putnam of Redding, Nori (and Richard) Rossi of San Luis Obispo, and Julie (and Scott) Weis of Kerman; 10 grandchildren: Anthony (and Christine), Andrew and Jonathan Enns, Megan and Shauna Frantz, Chad (and Susan) Putnam, Courtney, Jordan and Brooks Rossi and Nathan Weis, and 1 great- grandson, Tyler Putnam. He is also survived by 1 brother, Roger (and Kathy) Frantz, 3 sisters, Edna Wiens, Betty Berg and Helen (and Adolph) Buhler, also sisters-in-law, Neva Knox and Belva (and Allen) Warkentin, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Emily Pankratz and Juanita Enns, and 5 brothers-in-law. He was a retired farmer, and lived in the Shafter-Wasco area. They moved to the Heritage Retirement Village on Bernard St. in 1992. In their retirement years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home and also took several bus trips and cruises. Music also played an important role in his life, singing in choirs and quartets. He played his keyboard by ear and entertained with his harmonica. He also liked sports, especially basketball and golf. He was a lifelong member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. Visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter on Sunday, March 6th from 2-8 p.m. A graveside service will be at Shafter Memorial Park on Monday, March 7th at 10 a.m. and a Memorial Service will follow at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church at 11 a.m. Pallbearers will be Anthony, Andrew and Jonathon Enns, Chad Putnam, Jordan and Brooks Rossi, and Nathan Weis.
