Robert Newman Lee
Jan. 5, 1928 - Mar. 2, 2005

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at 
Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Ln., for Bob Lee who passed 
away at home under hospice care. 

Bob was the oldest of three children born to Evelyn and Eugene Lee and grew up 
in the Detroit, Michigan area. He was the first kid in his working class 
neighborhood to graduate from high school and held education in high esteem. 
After enlisting in the U. S. Army at 17, he took advantage of the GI Bill to 
get his teaching credential at what is now Central Michigan State University.

He married Mary Beth, had three children while still in college, then taught 
junior high in Owosso and Lansing, Michigan. After getting his Masters Degree 
in Counseling and Guidance from Purdue University, he moved his family, which 
now included two more children, to Bakersfield in 1964, and worked for the 
Kern High School District at South High School until his retirement in 1991. 
For most of his adult life, Bob was active coaching and officiating baseball, 
softball, football and basketball. He was included in the Kern County 
Officials Association Hall of Fame in 1990.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother. He is survived by 
his sister, Kathryn; his children, Linda, Carol, Michael, Robert and Marilyn; 
and his granddaughters, Diana, Christina, Nicole and Andrea.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for 
Children, The Gleaners of Bakersfield or The American Cancer Society.
