Memorial services will follow at First Methodist Church, 4600 Stockdale Hwy, at 10:30 a.m. Reverend Arthur Jafke will officiate. Mildred Lee Villard was born in Pomona, California, on May 28, 1913, to Joan and Ira Hostetler. Joan and Ira came to California from Texas to start the Lone Star Dairy on Garey Street. While growing up Millie could be seen riding her horse through the orange orchards. She started driving herself and a carload of friends to school at 14. Lunch breaks were enjoyed in the backseat of her Model A. She continued her education at Chaffey Jr. College, and graduated from La Verne in 1935. In 1934 she carpooled with Bryce Rathbun looking for a job. She located a job in a one room schoolhouse on Panama Lane where she quickly became the principal and only teacher for all eight grades. There just happened to be a single man farming next door to the school who was soon to become smitten with Miss Hostetler. They were married in 1941 and when the school was moved, their new house was placed on the same foundation. Millie lost her parents early and soon Pierres family became her family. She didn't need to worry about making new friends because her former students, including her future sisters-in-law, Jeanette and Helen, were now her neighbors. Cousins and closest neighbors, Fred and Frank Caetano were constant companions of daughters, Joanne and Nancy. Albert the oldest cousin was to become a teacher and teach with Millie at Casa Loma School. Her school colleagues became lifelong friends. More dear friends were made through her activities and in Womans Club, The Roses and Angels Usher Group, the United First Methodist Church, 60+, and California Retired Teachers. Following Pierres death Millie followed in her husbands footsteps joining and becoming active in the Lamont Lions Club at the age of 89, driving to Lamont every Wednesday to attend lunch with fellow Lions. She was very proud of her family, daughter, Joanne Toth and her husband, Bob; daughter, Nancy Frick and her husband, Dennis; grandsons, Grant Frick, David Gordon and partner, Robert Carbone, and Steve Gordon; granddaughter, Roseann Aubert and husband, Grandon; great-grandchildren, Elexis and Grandon Aubert; niece, Faith Hostetler and daughter, Melissa; and nephew, Butch Hostetler. In her later years she was blessed with another daughter, Pat Fachin who she dearly loved. Pallbearers include Steven and David Gordon, Glen David Sharp, Grant Frick, Dennis Caetano, and Grandon Aubert. Honorary pallbearers include Leon Ollivier, Charlie Andreoli, Louis Rambaud, Frank Anderson and Glen Sharp. Contributions on her behalf can be made to the Lamont Lions Club Sight Conservation, or the Bakersfield Museum of Art. Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. Doughty-Calhoun-OMeara Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
