Verta was born on July 15, 1914 in Checotah, Okla. to Silas and Sylverine Smith. She married her loving husband, Joseph H. Wills, on March 8, 1933 in Stilwell, Okla. and remained married for 70 years until his passing in 2004. Verta lived her life according to Matthew 10:26, "With God all things are possible." She loved her family, nurtured her gardens and was of service to her fellow man. Her home was always a place of warm welcome and she never allowed visitors to leave without a smile or a full stomach. She was a talented cook, gardener, seamstress and human being. She loved the Lord and spent each day of her life following His example. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Verta will be missed by all of us who knew and loved her, but her loving influence and example will continue to touch the lives of everyone who knew her. Verta is survived by her son, Norman L. Wills and his wife Betty of Bakersfield; daughter, Patsy Denison of Tehachapi; grandchildren, Sharon Wasden and her husband Bob of Cedar City, Utah and Lee Ann Hansen and her husband Rich, of Salt Lake City, Utah; great-granddaughters, Anna Wasden and Ava Hansen; sister, Hazel Tribble of Montana; and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Phyllis and DeeRoy Crowell, who gave special loving care to Verta. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service on Thursday, March 10. Pastor Mark Staller of the Apostolic Faith Church will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to the deceased.
