Mary Martinez Gallardo
October 26, 1918 - March 8, 2005 

Mary Martinez Gallardo, 86, was born on October 26, 1918, in Torreon, 
Coahuila, Mexico. She passed away March 8, 2005, after a long illness. 
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2005, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. 
with Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. at the Hopson Mortuary Chapel, Mass of 
Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 11, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at St. 
Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Mary came to Bakersfield with her parents, Ambrosio and Carlota Martinez in 
1923. In 1941 she married Richard Gallardo, and they enjoyed 40 years of 
marriage. She was a food server at the Mexicali Restaurant for many years and 
later retired from the Bakersfield City School District. Her hobbies included 
sewing, cooking, gardening, camping and getting together with family and 
friends. In later years, she enjoyed working word puzzles and the 
companionship of her pet dachshund, Augie. 

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Richard; loving parents and 
siblings, Guadalupe Calvillo, Jose Martinez, Jesus Martinez, Refugio Torres, 
Joaquin Martinez and Carlos Martinez. She is survived by her daughters, 
Charlotte De Anda (and husband, Clarence), Mary Lou Gallardo, Kathy Lizalde 
and Christine Gallardo; grandchildren, Michelle Barlow, David Castle, Aaron De 
Anda, Diane and Jennifer Lizalde; great-grandchildren, Shanelle and Emelie De 
Anda, Kyle Castle, and Zachary and Rosemary Barlow; and numerous nieces and 
nephews.
