Born in Oklahoma, Joe brought his young family to California in 1935, and soon settled in Tehachapi where he worked at Monolith Portland Cement Co. until his retirement in 1975. He was an active member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Tehachapi. Joe is remembered for his honesty, his strong faith in the Lord and his love for his family. Joe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Verta Mae Wills of Tehachapi; son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Betty Wills of Bakersfield; daughter, Patsy Denison of Tehachapi; granddaughters and husbands, Bob and Sharon Wasden of Cedar City, Utah and Lee Ann and Rich Hansen of Salt Lake City, Utah; great- granddaughters, Anna Wasden and Ava Hansen; and sisters, Ruby Freeman of Bakersfield, Ruene Spangler of El Sobrante, Earlene Merker of Prescott, Ariz., and Barbara Hill and Bobbi Valenzuela, both of Bakersfield. Joe will be missed by his family but never forgotten. A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 3, at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Mark Staller officiated at the service. Interment followed at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Optimal Hospice, 4800 Stockdale Hwy., Suite 215, Bakersfield, CA 93309.
