Leggio July 15, 1913 July 15, 2004 Grace C. Leggio was born on July 15, 1913, in Lake Charles, Louisana and taken by the Lord on her birthday 91 years later. The oldest of seven DeSimone children, she grew up in Los Angeles where she met her future husband. On June 6, 1937 she married the love of her life Anthony Leggio. After working at the family Italian market in South Central Los Angeles since a young boy, Anthony moved the family from Los Angeles to Bakersfield in 1945 to build Piute Packing Company. Grace was a devoted wife and mother. She, like many in her generation, gave true meaning to the phrase behind every successful man is a good woman. After retiring from the cattle business in 1959, she continued to be her husbands silent and strong partner as he pursued a second career in the real estate development business. Grace and Anthony had four sons, Joseph, Charles, Frank and Anthony. She was preceded in death by her husband who died shortly after their 50th anniversary in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles, who died in 2000. She is survived by Joe and Tina Leggio of Carlsbad, CA; daughter-in-law, Shirley Leggio of Upland, CA; Frank Leggio of Florida; and Anthony and Dayna Leggio of Bakersfield, CA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. While always epitomizing the terms Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Grace was a God fearing woman and always remained selfless and deeply devoted to her family and God. She was a continuing source of strength and inspiration to her family and her remarkable spirit will always live on in the lives of the many people she so deeply touched. The family would like to thank Dr. Tommy Lee and the wonderful staff at Bakersfield Heart Hospital for making her final days so pleasant. Private family services will be held at San Clemente Catholic Mission. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
