Viewing will be at Hillcrest on Friday from 4:00 8:00 p.m. Dorothy was born July 12, 1927, in Chicago, IL, to David and Stella Nelson and passed away peacefully on July 16, 2004. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Robert P. Mettler, and three daughters: Lisa and Bill Bergholdt of Northridge, CA; Paula and Patrick Reilly of Bakersfield; and Sara and Fred Nilson of Bakersfield. Dorothy has one grandson, Christopher Bergholdt. She also has two surviving siblings, Carol Wahl and Duane Nelson, both of Bakersfield. Dorothy leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Dorothy made many lifelong friends through her great generosity and her interests in stitchery, cooking, tennis and traveling. Dorothy and Bob were fixtures at The Racquet Club for many years. Dorothy enjoyed her monthly luncheon and stitchery group for as long as her daughters can remember. Dorothy was very proud of her Swedish heritage and loved to make traditional recipes for family and friends. She and Bob enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed their trip to Sweden, catching up with distant family members. Dorothy also loved spending time in and around Morro Bay and in the Sequoias. Most of all, Dorothy loved and cared for her family unselfishly and expressed her faith in God, appreciating each and every day. She loved and accepted people for the good qualities that she could always find in them and she will be missed beyond measure. We know that she is at peace and with her loved ones who passed on before her. If you would like to make a donation in her name, please consider the American Heart Assoc.
