Esther Fimbres Torres went home to be with our Lord on July 20, 2004 in Bakersfield, California with her family by her side. She was born to Plasida and Adolfo Fimbres on August 23, 1921, in Arizona. The family traveled throughout the western states because of her fathers job with the railroad. Eventually the family settled in Bakersfield where Esther attended local schools. She married Carlos Lara Torres on September 6, 1942. Grandpa and Grandma raised their family in central Bakersfield. Grandma was a homemaker and community volunteer working with the Well Baby Clinic, The Blind Center, and Meals on Wheels. She was actively involved with her children in various activities such as Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, Brownie, Girl Scouts, and she was very active at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the school. She was an active member of the Guadalupana Society. Her favorite pastimes were raising her children; playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and praying her rosary. She is preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, a daughter, Mary Ann and her husband, Carlos, whom she dearly missed. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Aurora and Clem Hernandez; Alicia and Edward Reyes; Evangeline and Louis Calderon; son and daughter-in-law, Carlos and Monica Torres; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Mary Fimbres; sister, Barbara Yniguez; and sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Alfred Lopez. The family would like to express their appreciation to Optimal Hospice, to the nurses and doctors on the 2nd floor of Memorial Hospital, and to the family and friends who prayed for our mother and grandmother. We appreciate your loving care and support during this most difficult time. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Charlie Hernandez, Edward Reyes, Jr., Carlos Torres, Jr., Samuel Torres, Benjamin Reyes, and Daniel Torres.
