Helen leaves behind her son, Dale of Chino Hills and his wife, Susan. Helen has many, many nieces and nephews and she was proud of being GG great, great aunt to them all. Helen was born and raised in Baker, Oregon and her life was a wonderful journey. She saw many changes from horse and buggies to space travel; from party lines to cell phones; from chalk slates to computers. Helen maintained a high profile. During World War II, she was Red Cross Administrator at Camp Pendleton. In 1948 she and her family moved to Bakersfield where she went to work for Kern County Probation, and later for her cousin Wally Byam, founder of Airstream Trailer Corporation. Helen served on the Airstream Corporate Board, and in 1955 she founded the Wally Byam Caravan Club out of a Bakersfield office. One of her many responsibilities was planning Caravan tours. Helens favorite travels included over 71 nations on six continents. With Helen in charge the Club flourished and is still the most prestigious recreational vehicle travel club in the world. She retired from Airstream in 1979 at the age of 75. Helen had many interests and was a person of great charity, and humanity. Her volunteer work with Bakersfields Pioneer Village, Guild House, Salvation Army and shut-ins program is legend. Bridge was also her passion, and for over forty years she played several times a week with a group of close friends. Helen lived life with positive thinking, humor and love. She was a friend to all and could be counted on to listen, advise and just to be there when needed.
