Donald R. "Don" Bennett
9/28/1925 7/30/2004

Don died on Friday, July 30, 2004, in a local hospital. He was born September 
28, 1925, in Liberty, Missouri to John and Ruth Bennett. The family moved to 
California in 1928. Don was educated in Los Angeles schools. 

Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1943 and served aboard several ships 
in the South Pacific during WWII. In 1962 he moved to Bakersfield as part 
owner of Sequoia Paint Company and later started Pioneer Paint Company.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, entering his beagles in field trials during his 
earlier years, and after retirement became an avid golfer until developing 
Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2002. He was an outgoing, cordial man who had many 
friends from his school years, business affiliations and recreational 
activities.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lorraine Taylor, and his 
brother, Glen. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Sandi Wilhite 
and her husband, Stephen of Dublin, CA; brother, Herbert of Idaho; six 
grandchildren; a great-grandson and his beloved cat, Josie.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Cat People, PMB 246,4909 
Stockdale Hwy., Bakersfield, CA 93309. Graveside services will be held on 
August 5, at 1:30 p.m., at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in 
Gustine, CA.
