She passed in Mercy Hospital on March 13th, 2005 after a brief illness. Rose moved to Bakersfield in 1941 and married Bob Godley in 1943. From that union came two daughters, Nancie Godley Freeborn Staples and Janet Godley Kinney-Poteet. In 1967, Rosalie met and married her life mate and travel partner Robert "Bob" Hicks. The two of them shared 38 wonderful fun- filled years together. Rosalie was always the life of the party! She adored having a good time and treated every person she came into contact with as an old friend. She rarely began a day without her makeup on, her hair done, and her nails brightly painted. Rosalie loved life and exhibited a zest for living that permeated and infectiously enrolled everyone around her. Her wardrobe was as colorful as her personality. If you couldn't see her through the crowd, you'd still know where she sat, just from the ricochet of her laughter. Rosalie was a collector. She loved dolls, miniature plates, ceramics, and a variety of other memorabilia. Her relationships and friendships were the same. Each one was full of diversity with something unique and significant about it. Some were founded out of a mutual interest; others began because you were simply in her vicinity. Rosalie had the travel bug and regardless of whether she was in her permanent home or her house on wheels, she delighted in caring for her environment with love and nurturance. Rosalie was as hospitable as they come. She was funny with a sassy sense of humor and plenty of opinions to share. Despite her independent nature, she derived great pleasure from doing for others. She loved to cook and would always welcome visitors with refreshments of some kind. She had an energetic and vibrant "busy body" nature, seeming to be busy doing something, even while relaxing. For the past 11 years, Bob and Rosalie had been spending their winters in Yuma, Arizona. Rose loved going to Yuma. Many evenings were spent in the company of friends socializing and then it would be time for her to step onto the stage, stand in the spotlight, and sing her favorite songs. Rose loved singing, she loved karaoke, and in particular, she loved ballads! Her voice was sweet and smooth and like her laughter, distinct and recognizable to those who knew her. Another of Rosalie's loves during her 25 years of retirement, which began at the young age of 53, were games of any kind and cards in particular. She knew the rules to every game and loved to win, subtly pouting when a play went sour and laughing joyfully when it worked to her advantage. One always knew where they stood with Rose. She played like she lived, fully, and with enthusiasm and zest! Joining her friends in the celebration of Rose's life is her beloved husband, Bob Hicks, their children: Nancie Staples, Mike Hicks, and Janet Poteet, and many grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. This "Celebration of Rose's Life" will be held, Wednesday, March 16, 2005. To be included, please RSVP the family for location and directions at: 661-587- 7015 or 661-331-9647.
