Gonzales Services: Mon., May 2, 9:30 a.m. Recitation of the Rosary followed by celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church for Julius C. Gonzales, 84, who passed away April 26, 2005, in Bakersfield. Rev. Msgr. Ronald J. Swett will officiate with interment following at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery. Mr. Gonzales was born September 30, 1920, in Bakersfield and had resided here all his life. He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a U.S. Marine in the South Pacific and fought in the battle for Guam. Following his military service he worked forty years for Bernard & Sons Meat Distributors. Julius was a member of the UPEC, UPPEC, and SES Portuguese lodges. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rose Goulart Gonzales; four sisters-in- law, Martha Gonzales, Evelyn Gonzales, Lucy Goulart Gonsalves, and Mary Goulart Capinha; nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Edward Erro, Sr., Edward Erro, Jr., Joseph Gonsalves, Victor Capinha, Louis Candelaria and Michael Martin. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Capinha, Frank Machado, Joe Pires, Joe Costa, Antonio Alemao, Manuel Rose and Jack McCorkle.
