Pastor Bush, on behalf of St. John's Lutheran Church, will perform the service. Lucille was born October 5, 1940 in Conrad, Montana to Everett and Ruth Goodheart. She has two brothers, Dale and Chuck Goodheart, both of Montana. In 1961, Lucille married Roger Ostlund in Tolley, ND. In 1967, they moved from North Dakota to Anchorage, Alaska as Roger had begun a 31-year career with Shell Oil. In those 31 years, they moved many times. Relocating to Ventura, CA, then Taft, CA, back to Anchorage then on to Cameroon, Africa, Huntington Beach, CA, Bakersfield, CA, New Orleans, LA, and finally back to Bakersfield where they retired. During those years, Lucille held many jobs and had many interests. She worked in child care, and as nursing assistant. Lucille held the distinction of being one of the first Certified Nurses Aides in the State of California. She loved caring for people, and devoted herself to her patients. In addition to all this, she raised three children and was a devoted wife. She enjoyed many hobbies: including painting, knitting, crochet, needlepoint, reading, cooking, travel, her Shih Tzu dogs, crossword puzzles, and of course her bowling. Most recently, she was a member of the "Getaway's" bowling team, the members of which have been very supportive of Lucille in her illness, changing the name of their team to "Lucy's Bubbies." Lucille had several constants in her life. Most important to her was her husband, and best friend, Roger. They were the best of friends, and cared deeply for each other. Lucille nursed Roger during his bout with cancer, and he credits her with saving his life. They shared everything, the best of times and when times were rough. They were a team, supporting each other, and their love has been an inspiration to all. Lucille was a very loving mother, who always placed her family's welfare ahead of her own. She loved her children, and enjoyed being a mother and a grandmother. She taught her children to share her love of God, and to have faith in God's grace. In addition, Lucille was a great friend. She made many good friends over the years, and held them as dear as her family. She shared herself with her friends, her joys and her sorrows. Lucille was steadfast in her devotion to others, and loved life, and was devoted to God. Her family, friends, and all that have come to know her will miss Lucille. Her strong will and determination, her warmth and love, her joy in life will be a constant inspiration. Lucille is survived by her husband, Roger Ostlund; sons, Joel and Paul Ostlund and their wives, Nancy and Nicola, her daughter, Dawnett Lanson, and her husband Anthony, and her grandchildren, James, Nick, Erik, Adam, Brent, and Amanda. She is survived by her brothers, Dale and Chuck, and many nieces and nephews. Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary Funeral Directors Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
