After graduating from Boston English High School in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. David completed a four-year tour of duty and received an Honorable Discharge as a Staff Sergeant. From that point, David started his professional career beginning with Lockheed in Marietta, GA as a Senior Design Engineer. During that period he also attended Georgia Tech and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. That was followed by a distinguished career in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering with fifty-five patents to his credit. He retired from ITT Cannon in Santa Ana, CA in 1989 as Director of Engineering for the Component Systems Group, which covered five states and two countries. He was recognized as one of the top electrical engineers in the world and had received many awards throughout his career. He came out of retirement at the end of 1991 and was V.P. of Engineering for Augat Automotive Components in Clinton Township, Michigan. On February 22, 1992, he married the love of his life, Donna. They continued to live in Michigan until he retired in 1994 and then returned to his home in Sun City West, Arizona. The years following were devoted to traveling, golf, oil painting, writing poetry, and entertaining friends. He also started a computer consulting business, however, most of his business was focused on helping neighbors and friends with their computer problems. David had a big heart and shared his many talents with his friends. David was known as The Poet in the Sky to many of his professional friends. Over the years David traveled to many parts of the world for business and would often write poetry on paper napkins to give to friends, as well as flight attendants. His wife, Donna, was the proud recipient of his beautiful poetry from the time they began dating and continuing throughout their marriage. Family members and friends also had the joy of receiving a gift of Davids poetic verse. We believe David is up in Heaven writing poetry for the angels to sing. Two years ago, David and Donna moved to Bakersfield, CA to be near Donnas daughter, Diana, and to watch their youngest grand-daughter, Kylie, grow up. Grandpa affectionately referred to Kylie as his Honey Bunny. David was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Anna Goodman, and niece, Ellen Rose. He is survived by his wife, Donna; one son, Robert Goodman and wife, Cindy; grand-daughters, Laura and Katherine Goodman; a second son, Steven Goodman and wife, Jane; granddaughter, Lisa and husband, Carlos Reyes; grandson, Daniel Goodman and wife, Maria and great-granddaughter, Bailey Lynn Goodman; a daughter, Debra and husband, Benjamin Montak; grandson, Jason Merritt; granddaughters, Julie Merritt, Danielle Merritt, Jessica Montak and grandson, Samuel Montak; stepdaughter, Diana Williams; granddaughter, Kylie Williams and stepdaughter, Valerie Williams; his surviving sibling Ruth and husband, Clifford Hayden; and niece, Cindy Rose along with Cindys family. David had a deep faith in God. He is now at peace after struggling with a rare blood disease, which was diagnosed last December. Special thanks to Dr. Emmanuel Strategos and medical assistant, Vanessa, Dr. Madan Mukhopadyay and all the nurses at the CBCC who took care of David, the nursing staff at Mercy Southwest, the various medical specialists called in to assist and the wonderfully attentive ICU staff at Mercy Truxtun, and finally, Dianas close friends who came to the hospital to pray, encourage, and support the family.
